Eels’ NRLW team lead the way for Western Sydney

History is just days away.

The Parramatta Eels will on Sunday become the first NRLW team to represent Western Sydney.

Their first step towards owning the West in Women’s Rugby League.

The Blue & Gold’s heartland.

Kick off will not only signal an expanded competition, but a new pathway for all the young female players, aspiring to reach the top.

Young girls now in Western Sydney now have an elite Rugby League team they can aspire to represent.

The opportunity is there for the taking.

Inaugural Eels NRLW Captain Simaima Taufa couldn’t be prouder to be pulling on Eels colours for her hometown.

“Representing Western Sydney is always an honour. I’ve always been big on ‘don’t forget your roots’ and you don’t shy away from that,” Taufa said.

“I’ve been part of the Western Sydney area for so long and you wouldn’t be where you are without your upbringing.

“There is so much talent and potential out here. We can continue to inspire young girls to play Rugby League,” Taufa said.

And it’s not just the team that recognises the enormity of this moment for Western Sydney and Parramatta.

Major Partner of the Eels NRL team, ALAND Developments, has signed on as the inaugural major partner of the NRLW team.

ALAND founder Andrew Hrsto knows too well the the importance of supporting the expansion of the women’s game.

“The Eels NRLW team is an important step towards growing the game for young girls and we’re extremely proud to be the Major Partner of the Parramatta Eels; both the NRLW side, and the NRL side,” Mr Hrsto said.

Trivett Subaru Sydney, LADbible Australia (leveraging their SPORTbible Australia publication), McDonalds, Motion Asia Pacific, SKG Services, Harvey Norman and Telstra are the other major partners of the inaugural NRLW team, all of which are excited to be supporting Western Sydney’s first NRLW team.

LADbible General Manager Joseph Summers said “We’re excited to help connect more Australian sports fans with the Parramatta Eels NRLW team, Women’s Rugby League and women’s sport and athletes more broadly. We’re proud to be sponsoring a team that is laser-focused on change, growth and people both on and off the field.”
