Eels sign landmark partnership in the NT

The Parramatta Eels are pleased to announce its continued partnership with Northern Territory Major Events Company for a further three years, which will take the Club’s long-running relationship with the NT to 12 years.

The agreement will see the Eels continue to play one NRL game each year in the NT as well as promotion of the game at a grass roots level and several community events during the visit by the team.

In 2023 the Eels will host the Brisbane Broncos in Round Eight on Friday 21st April at 8pm (AEST) at TIO Stadium. The match will coincide with the NRL’s ANZAC Round and will showcase the game in the NT during an important weekend for all Australians.

The NT has been the Eels’ home away from home since 2014, when the long-running partnership started.

The Club’s 2021 game against the Broncos in Darwin attracted a sell-out crowd in excess of 12,000, providing a huge boost to the local economy.

Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos welcomed the extension and said the NT is a second home for the Club.

“Being the “Territory Eels” has been part of our identity for the past nine years and we are pleased this partnership will continue for another three,” Mr Sarantinos said.

“The further commitment demonstrates how much both organisations value the partnership.

“We have built some great connections and relationships in the NT and this extension will only strengthen them.

“We hope our visits can continue to grow the popularity of Rugby League in the Territory,” Mr Sarantinos said.

Minister for Major Events Paul Kirby said, “Rugby League is incredibly popular across the Territory, and we are proud to be bringing the Eels and the Broncos to our capital so Territorians can watch professional sporting fixtures right here in their own backyard.

“It’s always an exciting time when all the players are in town, and the Darwin game provides great opportunities for local and visiting fans to meet the players, with visitors also able to make a memorable holiday out of their time in the Top End,” Mr Kirby said.

The Eels will once again provide the opportunity for members and fans to take part in a multi-day trip to the NT, taking in the game as well as a range of other activities and events.
