Eels trio crowned world champions

Eels stars Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Simaima Taufa and Kennedy Cherrington each tasted glory as Australia took out the Men's and Women's World Cup Finals at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Campbell-Gillard helped the Kangaroos to a 30-10 win over Samoa in the Men's Final, while Taufa and Cherrington played starring roles in the Jillaroos' 54-4 thrashing of the Kiwi Ferns.

"The Theatre of Dreams", Old Trafford lived up to the hype for each of the Eels stars but particularly Cherrington, who scored two tries in the Women's Final.

Meanwhile, Campbell-Gillard and Taufa each collected their second World Cup winner's medals, having featured in 2017 Final triumphs.

'RCG' led from the front in the Men's Final with 147 run metres - the most of any Kangaroos forward - as he came head-to-head with Eels teammate Junior Paulo.

Captain of a brave Toa Samoa, Paulo was inspirational with 156 run metres and 38 tackles for the losing side, who exit the tournament with their heads held high.

Cherrington was the star of the show from an Eels perspective, bagging two tries in the space of three minutes in the Jillaroos' resounding victory.

After bulldozing through three defenders to score her first in the 67th minute, she added a second to her tally moments later when she applied the finishing touch to a wonderful Australia try.

She also posted 102 run metres, 16 tackles and five tackle breaks in her first World Cup Final appearance.

Teammate Taufa was typically immense, as she contributed 155 run metres and 35 tackles to the Jillaroos' cause.

With the three Eels' help, the Kangaroos and Jillaroos have now each won three consecutive Rugby League World Cup Finals.
