The Parramatta Eels are saddened by the passing of former Parramatta Leagues Club Director and long-time Parramatta Eels sponsor Anthony (Tony) Garnett OAM.
Tony was a director of the Leagues club from 1986 to 1991 and was Chairman of the Marketing Committee where he was influential in the expansion of the Leagues and Football Club’s marketing activities.
He was an avid Parramatta Eels fan who lived in the local area for more than 24 years. Through his relationship with the West City Holden Group, he was a long-time sponsor of the Parramatta Eels and several other junior sporting teams.
One of his key legacies while director of the Leagues Club was his contribution to the building of the original Parramatta Stadium, where he also sat on the Inaugural Parramatta Stadium Trust.
A forceful proponent for social and economic growth in Western Sydney throughout the 1980s and 1990s; Tony is survived by his wife Mary, his four children; Alison, Daniel, Michael and Patrick and his eleven grandchildren.
On behalf of everyone at the Parramatta Eels, we would like to extend our condolences to Tony’s family at this difficult time.
