Eels conquer Knights in PARRAdise

The Eels treated their fans to an electric performance in a 43-12 win over Newcastle at CommBank Stadium on Friday.

Clint Gutherson scored a hat-trick in a classic captain's knock, while Mitchell Moses kicked seven goals from seven attempts, scored a try, and landed a field goal late on.

The pair were joined on the scoresheet by Dylan Brown, Sean Russell and Junior Paulo, to the backdrop of a complete team display.

After an early exchange of points, Parramatta took complete control of the match midway through the first half with three tries in the space of 15 minutes as they returned to the winner's list.

The match got off to a frantic start, with three tries scored inside 10 minutes of play.

Parramatta drew first blood when Dylan Brown got down low to burrow through Newcastle’s goal line defence with the Eels’ first possession. Mitchell Moses added the extras for a 6-0 lead after three minutes.

The Knights responded swiftly as Mat Croker dived on a kick to the in-goal just moments later, making it 6-6 after seven minutes.

It was one-way traffic from that point onwards, as the Eels took complete control of proceedings.

Mitchell Moses took matters into his own hands to restore Parramatta’s lead. The halfback took on the line from close range and left three defenders in his wake as he danced over the stripe.

The Eels defended their goal-line to preserve their lead, and were rewarded with a third try in the 22nd minute.

Clint Gutherson conjured a try out of nothing, jumping out of dummy half and crashing over in the corner from close range. Moses converted once again to extend the Eels’ lead to 18-6.

Parramatta had all the momentum, with another two tries up their sleeve before the end of the first half.

After Will Penisini made a line break and fell just short of the line, Gutherson popped up at dummy half to burrow his way over once again.

The Eels completed their astonishing first half with a long-range try, as Dylan Brown broke into the clear and found Sean Russell looming in support for his second try in two weeks.

Moses completed the half with five conversions from five attempts, four of which were from out wide, giving Parramatta a 30-6 lead at the interval.

Parramatta picked up right where they left off in the second half as the captain collected a hat-trick in the 46th minute.

Moses sliced through the Knights’ right edge defence on the halfway line, and raced away before passing inside for Gutherson to score his third try of the night.

The halfback's sixth conversion stretched the Eels' lead to 30 points.

Newcastle pulled one back through Dominic Young, but it was mere consolation as Parramatta coasted to victory.

On the back of a surging run by Maika Sivo, the Eels added a seventh try when Junior Paulo bulldozed over under the posts, putting Parramatta beyond the 40-point margin.

Mitchell Moses put an exclamation point on Parramatta's win with the final play of the match, knocking over a field goal to to make it a 31-point triumph.
