Parramatta Eels unveil 2025 Indigenous Jersey: 60 years a name, thousands of years a story

The Parramatta Eels are proud to unveil our 2025 Indigenous Jersey, a powerful tribute to culture, connection, and continuity, as we mark 60 years since the club first became known as the ‘Eels’.

This year’s jersey is more than a celebration of a name, it’s our story. Past, Present and Rising. It’s a reflection of a story that stretches back tens of thousands of years, honouring the Burramattagal people of the Dharug Nation and the enduring significance of the eel to their culture, identity, and Country.

The 2025 Indigenous Jersey is available now only at the Eels Official Store and at CommBank Stadium on game day.

The design, by artist Sean Duncan-Kinchela, draws inspiration from the Burramattagal’s deep relationship with the Parramatta River and the migration of the eel, known for its resilience and adaptability. When the Parramatta Green Wattle is in blossom, the eel navigates vast and changing waters to return home - so too does our club continue its journey through generations, overcoming challenges.

Six yellow circles, each adorned with 10 wattle flowers, represent the six decades since the Eels name was born. Wattle leaves are woven throughout the design and a boomerang proudly carries the name “Burramattagal Eels”, flanked by “60 YRS” on either side.

Flowing through the base of the jersey is the Parramatta River, surrounded by traditional patterns, as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags are carried with pride.

In a landmark moment for our club, this will be the first time our NRLW team will wear an Indigenous or alternate jersey, and the same jersey as our NRL men’s side. This shared identity reflects our commitment to equality, respect, and the power of storytelling across all levels of our game.

Both the men's and women's teams will wear the jersey with pride during Indigenous Round on Sunday, August 10, in a blockbuster double header against the Cowboys at CommBank Stadium. In a celebration of culture, community, and connection in the heart of PARRAdise.

This jersey is a journey. It honours those who came before us, celebrates those who walk with us, and inspires those who will follow. It’s a reminder that while the name ‘Eels’ has been with us for 60 years, the story it carries is thousands of years old, and still being written.

Tickets to the Indigenous Round Double Header are now on sale. Tickets from $15, get yours now!
