Kiana Takairangi to make history as First Father-Son-Daughter Trio

Parramatta will celebrate a landmark moment in history this weekend when Kiana Takairangi makes her NRLW debut for the Eels, becoming part of the first-ever ‘father-son-daughter' trio to represent the blue and gold and any premiership club.

Her father, Louis Takairangi, played first grade for Parramatta in 1987, laying the foundation for her family legacy that would span decades. Her brother, Brad Takairangi, became a fan favourite during his six seasons with the club, notching up 110 NRL games between 2015 and 2020.

Now, Kiana is set to etch her own name into the club’s proud history and onto the player honour walls in the Parramatta Eels Centre of Excellence.
“To be able to wear the same badge and colours as my dad and brother is something really special,” Kiana said ahead of her debut. “Parramatta means a lot to our family and it’s more than just a club, it’s home.”

The versatile outside back has impressed in the lead-up to her first NRLW appearance for the Eels, showcasing speed, footwork, and the kind of toughness that’s become synonymous with the Takairangi name.

Louis, together with Brad, presented Kiana with her jersey and reflected on the moment with emotion, “When I ran out for Parramatta back in 1987, I never imagined one day both my son and daughter would follow in my footsteps. It’s something really special for our family.”

“I've been trying to tell her to get out here for the past couple of years so I'm glad she finally listened. It is very special making history together and I couldn't be prouder,” he added.

Kiana has scored 6 tries in 13 NRLW appearances. She made her debut with the Sydney Roosters in 2019, playing 2 games, before joining Newcastle in 2022 for 6 games, and later appearing in 5 games for Cronulla in 2023. Internationally, she has proudly represented her heritage and the Cook Islands in 6 games across 2017 and 2022–2024.

The Eels family welcome Kiana with open arms this weekend, as she becomes the newest chapter in a unique Parramatta story.
