Parramatta Eels launch Eels Academy

The Parramatta Eels have today launched the Eels Academy – our new home for all junior representative, elite pathways and development squads.

“The Parramatta Eels Academy represents our ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of NRL talent.” said Mark O’Neill, General Manager of Football.
“This robust program not only focuses on player development but also fosters a holistic approach to wellbeing, education, and career growth for over 300 young athletes,” he added.

Based at Kellyville Park and Eric Tweedale Stadium, the Parramatta Eels Academy is a testament to the club’s long-term vision and commitment to developing the next generation of rugby league talent. With a professional, experienced coaching staff and a clear commitment to player wellbeing, the club is setting the standard for how an NRL club can build a sustainable, thriving program that benefits players, the Club, and the wider rugby league community.

Spanning multiple levels from juniors to elite athletes, the Eels Academy offers a clear pathway for players to progress from their early years in rugby league to potential NRL or NRLW contracts. Key to thissuccess is the club’s investment in resources, facilities, and full-time staff that help guide these players at every stage of their development.

“Our number one goal is to show that we care about the development of our players,” said James Shepherd, Head of Eels Academy & Pathways. “All our staff are engaged, invested, and genuinely have the growth of each player at heart. This is not only about football, it is about developing people.”

That commitment is backed by strong organisational support. The Eels are fortunate to have a highly supportive board and executive team who have invested heavily in the Academy. In the past month, a significant amount of football equipment and resources have been provided to athletes, including mouthguards, boots, backpacks, polos, and other essential gear at no cost to the players.

Beyond equipment, the Eels Academy places equal emphasis on people. Athletes are supported by dedicated football staff as well as wellbeing and development resources, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and set up to succeed.
“We have world class facilities and also full-time coaching, performance and wellbeing staff” Shepherd said. “That balance is critical. When players know they are supported as individuals, their growth on the field follows.”

Parramatta fans, and families and friends of athletes can now follow our teams progress on the newly minted Eels Academy social accounts at @Eels_Academy on Instagram, or Eels Academy on Facebook.
