The Parramatta Eels are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Vince Fawcett, aged 55, after a long illness.
Born in Leeds in 1970, Vince signed with Leeds at just 16 years of age and made his first-grade debut in 1987, going on to play with the club until 1994 before moving to Workington Town.
Vince later headed down under, trying his luck with Parramatta in the Australian Rugby League competition for a season, before returning to Workington Town for their Centenary Season. He then made his way back to Parramatta for the club’s first season of Super League.
Across the 1995–96 seasons, Vince played 14 first-grade games for the Eels, scoring three tries and proudly wearing the blue and gold. A big centre with a huge heart, he was a versatile player who filled roles in the centres, at five-eighth, and off the bench.
Following his time at Parramatta, Vince returned to England, playing with Oldham (1997), Warrington (1998) and Wakefield Trinity (1999), before establishing a bed and breakfast after his retirement from rugby league.
Vince will be remembered for his commitment on the field and his love of the game.
We send our deepest sympathies to Vince’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Forever Eel #546.
