There’s plenty that brings a team together during pre-season - intense training, long days and a shared focus on the year ahead. But for the Parramatta Eels, this year’s Pre-Season Challenge left more than just preparation for Round 1. It created an opportunity to give back.
After securing prize money from the competition, the Club’s leadership group, captain Mitchell Moses, Junior Paulo, J'maine Hopgood and Jack Williams, approached General Manager of Football Mark O'Neill with a simple idea: use the funds to make a positive impact in the community.
The result was a $10,000 donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities, a cause that holds special significance for the Eels and one the Club has proudly supported for many years. Ronald McDonald House provides vital accommodation and support services to families with seriously ill children.
Paramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill praised the players.
“This was driven by the players, which makes it even more special. As a Club, we’re right behind them in supporting such a wonderful cause. We’re incredibly proud of our players and the connection we have with our community,” said O’Neill.
The gesture reflects a playing group determined to lead by example — understanding that wearing the Blue & Gold is not just about performance on game day. It’s about connection, community and using their platform to make a difference.
