Eels Star Liam Luff Set to Shine at Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup

Parramatta Eels wheelchair rugby league star Liam Luff is preparing to represent Australia on the world stage after being named in the Wheelaroos squad for the upcoming Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup.

Luff will make his second World Cup appearance after debuting for the Wheelaroos in 2022, where Australia’s campaign came to an end against France. However, that tournament proved to be a defining moment in his international career, helping him grow in confidence and establish himself as a key member of the Australian squad.
Since the 2022 World Cup, Luff’s game has continued to evolve. Renowned for his willingness to take on tough carries, straighten the attack and draw defenders, the Parramatta powerhouse has become one of the Wheelaroos’ most reliable performers and is expected to play an important role throughout the tournament.

Australia opens its campaign against traditional rivals New Zealand, with Luff expected to provide impact off the bench and inject energy into the contest as the match unfolds.

Adding to the Parramatta presence at the tournament is Eels legend and former Wheelaroos captain Brad Grove, who will swap his sports chair for a microphone as part of the Seven Network’s World Cup coverage.

Grove, the current captain-coach of the Parramatta Eels Wheelchair Rugby League team, guided the Eels to this season’s semi-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by the St George Illawarra Dragons. His extensive experience at both club and international level is expected to provide viewers with unique insights into the wheelchair format of the game.

Eels fans won’t have to wait long to cheer on their representatives, with the Wheelaroos’ opening World Cup clash against New Zealand scheduled for 31 October at 5:30pm at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre.
