Sterlo's Parra Preview: Eels v Roosters, Round Three

The Parramatta Eels take on the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium on Friday 29 March in Round Three of the NRL Telstra Premiership.

For the Blue & Gold first home game of the season, Head Coach Brad Arthur has made one change to his seventeen players that came away with a 36-16 victory over the Bulldogs last week with centre Michael Jennings returning from suspension.

Jennings comes into the starting side in place of Josh Hoffman who moves to the extended bench alongside Oregon Kaufusi, Peni Terepo and George Jennings.

For the Roosters, Head Coach Trent Robinson has made a handful of changes to his line up. Captain Jake Friend and Cooper Cronk have been named to return after missing in their Round Two victory over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles whilst Brett Morris has been ruled out with injury.

The return of Friend at hooker sees Victory Radley shift back to lock moving Angus Crichton to the bench alongside Isaac Liu, Zane Tetevano and Poasa Faamausili. Brock Lamb, Asu Kepaoa, Nat Butcher and Lachlan Lam are on the reserve bench for the Roosters.

The Eels have started their season with two confidence boosting wins, including a resilient performance last week where the side came back from a ten point deficit to finish twenty point victors over the Bulldogs.

However the challenge this week is against the premiers who bounced back from a first round loss to Souths with a dominant victory over the Sea Eagles at a wet Lottoland last week.

Winger Blake Ferguson will face his former side for the first time since joining the Blue & Gold, and the winger will be looking to continue his superb form from the opening two rounds where he leads the NRL in run metres (45) and is equal second in post contact metres (128).

The return of Friend and Cronk gives the opposition a boost, strengthening a side with an already in-form Luke Keary in the halves and James Tedesco at fullback. They come up against a young spine in Mitch Moses, Dylan Brown, Reed Mahoney and Clint Gutherson which will be a good test for the Blue & Gold.

Historically, it’s almost an even split with Parramatta claiming 62 wins from 131 games (5 draws), however at ANZ Stadium, the Roosters hold a 2-0. In their past five clashes, the Eels have won two from six games.

Kick off is at 7:55pm.
