Tickets go on sale today for the Parramatta Eels v Brisbane Broncos blockbuster clash, which will kick off in Darwin this April.
The Anzac Round is one of the most prestigious on the NRL calendar, and the Top End fixture is expected to draw both local and interstate footy fans to Darwin.
Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said the Club looks forward to the clash each year.
“We’re thrilled to be back in Darwin after missing out last year, especially to mark the Anzac Day long weekend,” Sarantinos said.
“We look forward to having our Territory Eels fans back in the stands,” he said.
It holds particular importance in the Top End, which was heavily bombed during World War II, and is the frontline of Australia’s defence.
The game is taking place in the Territory thanks to the Territory Labor Government’s partnership with the Eels, which has been extended to 2022.
“The Northern Territory continues to be the safest place in the country – and when it comes to major events – the envy of the nation,” Minister for Major Events, Natasha Fyles said.
“This game promises to be one of the biggest we’ve ever seen in Darwin, and we look forward to welcoming the teams and their fans to the Territory for Friday night footy,” Ms Fyles said.
As well as bringing world-class sport to Darwin, the partnership sees the Eels promote Territory tourism at interstate games and through their digital channels.
“While they are here they can attend our Anzac Day events, delve into our World War II history through dedicated tours and attractions, such as the Darwin Military Museum, and take the opportunity to explore as much of the Territory as possible,” Ms Fyles said.
“The Territory, and our fascinating, little-known wartime heritage, will also be on the radar of a broader interstate audience, who will hopefully be encouraged to make the Anzac Round pilgrimage to Darwin next year.
“We know how important it is to host national sporting events such as this one – it drives tourism, and keeps Territorians in jobs,” Ms Fyles said.
The match will take place at 7.25pm on 23 April 2021 at TIO Stadium.
