Easter Monday Classics: Best Blockbusters

As we approach one of the Parramatta Eels’ favourite weekends on the calendar, we look back at the best Easter Monday blockbusters against Wests Tigers.

Round 6, 2019 – Parramatta Eels open their new home in style

In 2019 the Easter Monday fixture aligned with the first-ever Parramatta Eels home game at CommBank Stadium.

The first game at the newly built arena was much anticipated.  Having been built on the site of the old Parramatta Stadium and Cumberland Oval – the opening match was inextricably linked to the history of the Blue & Gold and the fans poured through the gates.

The sellout crowd of 29,047 witnessed a one-sided affair with the Eels showing off their full flair in attack. Halfback Mitch Moses became the first player to score a try, goal and field goal at the new venue as the Parramatta Eels emerged victors 51-6.

Round 7, 2017 – Comeback Blitz

A point-scoring blitz in the final 10 minutes helped Parramatta overhaul a 22-10 deficit to stun Wests Tigers 26-22 at ANZ Stadium in 2016. Eventual Eels halfback Mitch Moses lead the Wests Tigers to a 22-10 lead with Parramatta facing a significant deficit with 25 minutes to go.

It took some Eels improvisation to swing the contest with tries to Kirisome Auva'a, Josh Hoffman and Semi Radradra leading the Blue & Gold to a 26-22 victory.

Round 4, 2016 – Arm wrestle for Easter

It wasn't always pretty but in the face of a steep injury toll Eels were able to grind their way to victory against the Tigers in 2016.

With the only try coming in the 55th minute to now captain Junior Paulo – the Eels defense was resilient and tough as they kept their rivals scoreless and came away with the two competition points.
