Eels celebrate successful 2022 junior league season

The Parramatta Eels have celebrated a successful junior league season at the annual presentation night honouring outstanding contributions from players and staff.

The event recognised some of the achievements of the Parramatta District Junior Rugby League Clubs.

More than 29 Clubs participate in the catchment where stars of the future are being unearthed.

Winners of the night include:

Appreciation of Service – Wayne Smith
Coach of the Year – Sam Rutherford, Hills District Bulls
Volunteer of the Year – Mathew Picone, Marconi Mustangs
Secretary of the Year – Jen Ramzan, Guildford Owls
Modified Football Incentive Shield – Hills District Bulls
Junior Incentive Shield – Hills District Bulls
Phil Carey Memorial Award (Player of The Year) – Sam Tuivaiti (Wenty Magpies)
Referee of The Year – Olivia Lawne
Club of the Year – Hills District Bulls
Club Championship – Hills District Bulls

Eels Pathways and Participation Manager Matt Brady was also honored for his eight years of service in the role.

It is expected that Matt will be transitioning into a new role as part of our expanded Elite pathways programs.

Throughout the night, Wayne Smith was also acknowledged for his contribution to Junior League for almost three decades.

He started his journey as a parent, before becoming a board member at the CVD Cobras and moved through to being chairman of the Junior League.

He was acknowledged with life membership of the Junior League as he finally hangs up the boots.

General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said the night was a tribute to the hard work our junior league Clubs have put in this year and also acknowledge the long-term contribution of key junior league personnel.

“The presentation night was a great way to bring everyone together and celebrate the contribution all clubs, and their people, made towards our junior league. It was their night, and it was important to be able to connect in a forum like this considering the two covid impacted years we have recently had.” O’Neill said.

“We look forward to building even stronger relationships with our junior Clubs and driving further success in the future.

“I’d like to thank all the players, referees, staff and volunteers for their dedication in enabling an enjoyable opportunity for our participants this year.

“A huge congratulations to all the deserving winners,” he said.
