The Parramatta Eels are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Mike Jackson, Eel #208.
Born on 29 June 1938, Mike was recruited from the Workington Town team in England to join Parramatta in 1962. A flyweight winger, he was joined by fellow English imports Derek Hallas, and Ivor Lingard, becoming part of an exciting new era for the club. Mike quickly established himself as a fan favourite with his speed and skill on the field.
He made his first grade debut for Parramatta in 1962 and went on to play 48 games in the top grade between 1962 and 1964, scoring 15 tries and amassing 45 points in blue and gold.
Mike was a key member of the historic 1962 side that reached the finals for the first time in the club’s history under captain Ron Lynch, a milestone the team would repeat in 1963 and 1964.
In July 1963, Mike added another special moment to his career when he lined up alongside Ken Thornett, Ron Lynch, Bill Rayner, and Brian Hambly to help Parramatta defeat the touring South African side 39–18 at Cumberland Oval.
In addition to his first grade appearances, Mike also played in the Pre-Season Cup between 1963 and 1965. He concluded his rugby league career with a move to second grade side Wentworthville in 1965.
Mike Jackson passed away on 3 September 2025.
The Parramatta Eels thank Mike for his invaluable contribution to the club and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Forever Eel #208.
