The Parramatta Eels are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gregory Francis Hyde on November 20, 2025, aged 82. He was the beloved husband of Susan, and son of renowned Rugby League player and broadcaster Frank Hyde.
Born on August 30, 1943, Greg followed in his father's footsteps, developing a strong passion for Rugby League from an early age. He first took to the field for North Sydney, making two pre-season cup appearances in 1965, before later joining Parramatta.
In 1970, Greg proudly ran out in three first grade matches at fullback for the Eels under coach Ron Lynch. During this time, he shared the field with club greats including Ken Irvine, Barry Rushworth, Denis Fitzgerald and Bob O’Reilly. Though his time in first grade was brief, Greg’s commitment, discipline, and team-first attitude left a lasting impression on all who played alongside him.
Greg will be remembered as a man of great integrity — humble, kind-hearted, and gentle in nature. His warmth and generosity touched many, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
The Parramatta Eels extend their heartfelt condolences to Susan, and to Greg’s family and friends during this difficult time.
