Vale: Allan Elworthy

The Parramatta Eels are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Allan James Elworthy, who passed away in Coffs Harbour on 27 June 2026, aged 90.

A talented centre from the North Coast, Elworthy first came to prominence when he was selected to represent the North Coast against the touring British Lions in Newcastle in 1958. That same year, he earned selection for the New South Wales Country Seconds, before backing up his representative honours in 1959 by scoring a try for the side.

His strong performances attracted the attention of Sydney clubs, leading to his arrival at Parramatta.

Elworthy made his first-grade debut for the Eels in 1960 and played eight first-grade matches across the 1960 and 1961 seasons, lining up alongside club greats Ron Lynch and Bill Rayner. He also made valuable contributions in Reserve Grade, playing two matches in 1960 and a further 14 games in 1961.

Following his rugby league career, Elworthy dedicated himself to a distinguished career with the New South Wales Police Force, rising to the rank of Senior Sergeant. Upon his retirement, he remained an active member of the Coffs Harbour Retired and Former Police Association.

Allan is survived by his loving wife, Lois, their four children, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Parramatta Eels extend their heartfelt sympathies to his wife Lois, the Elworthy family, and Allan's many friends during this difficult time.
