Sterling inducted to NSWRL Hall of Fame

The Parramatta Eels proudly congratulate Peter Sterling OAM on his induction into the NSWRL Hall of Fame at last night’s gala event.

Sterling, 65, was one of the game’s premier halfbacks during the 1980s, famously competing with fellow NSWRL Hall of Famer Steve Mortimer for the coveted NSW No.7 jersey. He went on to represent New South Wales on 13 occasions and played a key role in the Blues’ historic first 3-0 State of Origin series victory in 1986.

Renowned for his exceptional kicking game, sharp tactical mind, and brilliant ball-playing ability, Sterling also captained NSW in the exhibition State of Origin match held in Los Angeles in 1987, which the Blues won.

Peter Sterling Eel #358 remains one of the greatest players in Parramatta Eels history. Across a distinguished career from 1978 to 1992, he played 228 games and helped deliver four Premierships to the Club. He is a Parramatta Eels Hall of Fame inductee and Life Member.

The NSWRL Hall of Fame honours the 11 Immortals and 25 other players who have represented New South Wales with distinction.

To qualify for induction into the NSWRL Hall of Fame, a player must:
- Have played 10 or more matches for NSW, or captained the state side;
- Have represented Australia; and
- Have been retired for at least five seasons.

The Parramatta Eels join fans and the wider rugby league community in congratulating ‘Sterlo’ on this richly deserved honour.
